Case Studies of locksmith work and security engineering work successfully completed

These are a few examples of recent and past work carried out for customers.

Mr & Mrs Singh (Audenshaw,Tameside)

Having recently moved into their new home, they were unfortunately broken into, the locks fitted by the house builder were simply not high quality, a joiner visted them and fitted new doors, but alas, they suffered another break in, so they called me, their main concern was not getting broke into again, we fitted a new solid timber door, and fitted a british standard lock to their back door, with strengthening in the right places, by means of hinge bolts, and frame strengthener's plus a suitable mortice dead lock and secondary bolts, because I am a locksmith a fit the lock with the minimum of timber removed to keep the door at optimum strength and for a perfect lock action. Originally the burglars gained entry via the up and over garage door, and this was secured this with secondary locking too.
Two weeks passed and the burglars were back, The garage door was forced but resisted, so they smashed a window and set to work on the new internal door with the new locks on, again they were beat, the door did not give way, it was severly damaged BUT it did not open. Mr and Mrs Singh phoned me and thanked me for the exceptional work. They had the door repainted and the large lumps repaired in the door, and to my knowledge still have the security to this day with no losses.

Mrs Crompton (Astley bridge, Bolton)

Mrs Crompton is a elderly customer who lives alone, she isn`t as mobile as she once was, gets lots of vistors from her family, care workers, neighbors and freinds. This wasn`t much of a problem, but with her mobility being limited she wanted a way to allow people in her home without her getting up, plus her family were worried that if there was a problem they may not be able to get access, especially if they didn`t have her front door key on them, she has a yale type lock on the front door, so I adapted that lock to a combination lock, this meant anyone in her family could simply arrive, type in their code and let themselves in, including carers and friends. Its such a simple combination lock that it only took a couple of minutes for Mrs Crompton to get the hang of it. The code can be changed quickly and easily in-case of any concerns if security.

Mr Deighan (Astley Bridge,Bolton)

Mr Deighan is one of Mrs Cromptons neighbors from above, he liked the idea of the combination lock Mrs Crompton had, but was a bit more into gadgets, he wanted similar, he wanted a simple door intercom, so he could actually speak to vistors, plus a combination lock so family and friends could gain access. So I made the same modifications to his yale lock and installed a intercom, so when vistors came to his door he could simple converse with them from his living room or bedroom or kitchen via his interom, he felt a lot more secure as that particular area suffered from bogus callers praying on the elderly. With his intercom he could simply tell people he wasn`t interested without seeing them face to face.

Mr Calyton (Bramhall, Stockport)

Mr Clayton had a few on going problems, firstly he always had to jiggle keys in his locks to actually open the door, plus he had 8 keys for various doors into his house, his main gripe was actually the amount of keys he had, so with a simple locksmith service I put all his locks onto one key, this meant his Yale type lock and various Mortice dead locks actually shared one key. Only a few new locks were needed as they were differing brands and some were simply to old to sucessfully service. Now Mr Clayton has one key and very satisfied.

Mrs Burzynska (Cheetham Hill, Manchester)

Mrs Burzynska had a problem locking her UPVC door, to lock the door she had to lift the handle, but this was very difficult for her as it either jammed or refused to move, she contacted a upvc door specialists, they said her door was beyond repair and a new door was required costing £495, she didn`t want to go to that expense and resorted to walking around the front of the house to get to her back garden, in desperation, her brother had a go at fixing the door, this resulted in the door being permanently locked, so she called me, the lock was adjusted, serviced and repaired for £20, she could not believe how simple the door was to operate after a service, to the point that she initially believed the door wasn`t actually locking. But it was in perfect working order. For me it was such a simple job and a pleasure to do, for her it was a massive £470 saving and easy access to her garden in summer.

Private identity (warrington,bolton,salford,bury)

I have a client who rehouses people between 16-19 years old, these individuals are leaving state care, or being reintegrated into society, they are given their own homes in residential areas, as the homes are owned by my client and not the residents, they wanted heavy duty locks that wouldn't fail if subjected to abuse plus while giving their residents individual keys for their properties, they could also have a Master key to effect entry in any event, in addition, they wanted to ensure the key security was high enough that people couldn`t simply go and get extra keys cut, I installed a restricted key section so only my customer could obtain keys from me, plus changed the locks to heavy duty items, this particular system is the largest master key system I maintain at 127 locks (1/8/10) and only 1 master key.

Miss Derbyshire (Beswick, Manchester)

Miss Derbyshire lives in a ground floor flat, her kitchen window was a target of the local opportunist theives, she wanted window grilles fitting to prevent any more losses from her home, but didn`t want to give the outward apperance of a "prison" . The solution was simple, we fabricated a window grille, that was firstly high strength, but visually didn`t stand out, the grilles were hinged so she had access to open the grilles to put net curtains up, and so she could leave the window ajar on the hot summer evenings we occasionally get, they were painted in the same colour as the wood work around the window and finished in a high gloss top layer, this was so they could be easily cleaned and so they blended in, as well as being a very visual deterent, they also gave Miss Derbyshire peace of mind.
